A wonderful Single Owner Collection,
curated by Albert John Manley

To be included in our November 2026 Sale Exeter

We are thrilled to announce the inclusion of a delightful stamp collection, thoughtfully curated by Albert John Manley, in our upcoming sale. The collection features documented Postal History, an impressive array of stamps from Great Britain, including extensively plated Line Engraved, along with selections from other countries. The collection will be offered in two parts, with the first available at our Exeter sale November. We extend our gratitude to his loving daughter and family for sharing their words and photographs with us below.

"My Dad Albert John Manley, known as John, was born and raised in Plymouth on 28th April 1938. At age ten he was given a book on stamps by a relative and that started his life long interest in collecting.

He proved himself to be very intelligent from an early age and after leaving school he was given two scholarships to attend Oxford University to study chemistry and physics, choosing to focus on the latter. During his time at Oxford he continued to collect his stamps.

After graduating from Oxford my Dad worked for the UK Atomic Energy Authority, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and for a period of time, the US Government.

He travelled all over the world spending time in the USA, Japan, Russia and Europe. Home though was here in the UK at Sellafield.

During his travels he collected many stamps and items of postal history.

Growing up, I remember my Dad spending time putting his collection together, and applying his methodical approach to work as he did so. I went with him on occasions to collect stamps that he was interested in.  He spent many hours researching his stamps and letters and placing them carefully into the collection you see today.

After his retirement to Cornwall, Dad cared for his collection and preserved it with diligence. His later years were hard for him, and also for us as a family, as dementia claimed this once incredibly talented man. He passed peacefully at home on August 18th this year.

I am incredibly proud of my Dad and all that he was and did. To be able to share his collection, and how he came to have it, has been a moving and wonderful tribute to him. I am so pleased that others can now enjoy his work and passion for many more years to come."
